8 x 10 = 80. That is for the base. 12 x 10= 120. Times that by two because there are two sides that size so you get 240. 12x8=96. 96x2=192. You then need to add up all of the sides to get the total surface area. 80+240+192=512. 512 inches squared of paper is needed to make the bag.
