During the 1930s, many African-Americans migrated from the rural South to big cities in the North in search of work, this movement is called The Great Migration. During the initial wave the majority of migrants moved to major northern cities such as Chicago, Illiniois, Detroit, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and New York, New York.
